We worked with Peerless-AV® to design this award-winning series of premium articulating TV wall mounts. The DesignerSeries consists of three TV mounts for three different TV size and weight groups. In collaboration with our client, we took the design from styling sketches to production ready geometry. The DesignerSeries won a Dealerscope IMPACT! Award in 2017 for the “Best Video Accessories” Category.
Product Development
Peerless-AV® asked us to take the dimensions of an existing articulating TV mount and experiment with styling to create a premium looking product that shares some internal components with their catalog. Our industrial design team created dozens of styling sketches explore possible form factors. We had to design for multiple manufacturing methods including die cast aluminum, sheet metal fabrication, and injection molding. We also had to accommodate for ergonomic factors like access to TV inputs, screen positioning mechanisms, and cable management. After we modeled the product in Solidworks, we completed rigorous FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to ensure parts would stand up to the various force and weight requirements.
Features
The “I” shaped mounting plate makes it easy to access inputs on the back of the display and the mechanical mounting assembly allows the monitor to tilt within a +15/-5° vertical range of motion and ±90° of side to side swivel. The design also incorporates a cable management system that uses gutters in the arms to conceal the cables. Rubber flaps hold the cables in place even when the TV mount is fully expanded or collapsed. We reduced cost per unit by limiting the volume of aluminum used on die cast parts while maintaining part strength and designing parts that could be used across all three versions of the product.
Where Is It Now?
Peerless-AV® took this design into production under the name “DesignerSeries”. The product is RoHS compliant, UL certified, and VESA mounting compliant.
