Radio Flyer approached us to help them design and 3D model a children’s scooter that grows with its user. The scooter can transform from a sit-down to a stand-up scooter as the child learns to balance. At the project kickoff, Radio Flyer provided styling sketches to communicate their deign intentions. Our team rapidly took the project from 2D sketches to manufacturable 3D geometry that maintained the client’s styling intentions.
Product Development
One challenge our team faced during this project was making the product look cohesive in both the stand-up and sit-down configurations. The part that forms the saddle in the sit-down configuration is stored on the front of the product in the stand-up configuration. Consequently, the surfaces and edges of the saddle had to match up with geometry in two separate areas on the body of the product. Our expert team used advanced surface modeling to create a curvature-continuous 3D model that reflected Radio Flyer’s styling sketches. We delivered a well-organized Solidworks assembly, allowing Radio Flyer to easily finish the project without additional guidance.
