The Krankcycle is an innovative piece of exercise equipment that allows users to improve cardiovascular and upper body fitness while resting lower body muscles. Matrix approached us with the challenge of making the position of the crank arms adjustable while also considering durability, safety and areas of cost reduction. Our team developed concepts and expedited prototypes to realize the complicated articulation required for this innovative product.
How it Works
The krankcycle uses a flywheel and a resistance knob like most stationary bicycles however, it can be adjusted in three different ways to perform a variety of exercises. The crank arms move independently from one another while the height is easily adjustable. The headstock can rotate 180 degrees to reverse drive direction so that differently-abled users can use the product from a wheelchair.

Product Development
We created a fully functional prototype out of like production materials. We delivered a full CAD database including drawings of parts and assemblies that our client could use to get production pricing.
